Conjunction is a word which joins two independent parts of a sentence.

Coordinating conjunctions join two independent parts of a sentence

Subordinating conjunctions join a dependent clause to an independent clause

 

And

Use and to join similar ideas

I will go

Use and to show that one action follows another

I will go to the mall and buy clothes

Use and to show one action depends on another

They did not study and failed the exam

 

But

Use but to join two opposite ideas

You are a qualified person but I cannot give you the job

Us but to cancel the meaning of an idea

I like you but you irritate me a lot

 

Or

Use or to show choice

You should either come to school or leave it completely

Use or to give reason for something

Study hard or you will have to leave the colleges

Use so to signify Reason and then result

The traffic was really bad so I came late to the party

Use to show one event happening after the other

I will call you after I complete my work

Use before to show one event happening before the other

You should call me before leaving

Use once to tell about as soon as

I will come home once I am done with my work

Use as in formal writing and speech to say ‘as a result’

I got worried as the teacher announced the quiz

Since

Use since in formal writing and speech to say ‘as a result’ of what happened first

Use that to indicate the person or thing mentioned or understood

As if

Use as of to comment on how a situation seems

Use in order that to show a purpose

Use either…. Or to talk about two possible choices

Use both…. And to join two similar ideas

Use neither…..nor to join two negative ideas

Not only…..but also

Use not only…..but also to join two similar idea

He is not only intelligent but also handsome

Use whether….or to emphasize the idea that it is unimportant which of the two possible choices is chosen
